Available Musicians R Us!
Location: Warminster, PA
Primary Instrument: Bass
Other Instruments: guitar, vocals
Bands or artists who have influenced you: Skatalites, Desmond Dekker, Don Drummond, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday
Previous band/musical experience: I have been taking lessons for about 3 months. I am currently taking music theory in high school. I am taking a singing class in high school. I was in a metal band for a while but that busted and I went away from metal. I had a ska band going for a bit, but that started turning into an emo band and I wasnt having that. Now I have been jamming with some kids at my school looking to start a ska band.
What kind of band you are looking for: Im looking for a traditional ska band. No thirdwave/skacore type bands. Im also looking for an emo band. Something like Thursday or Taking Back Sunday, maybe even something like the Shins. And finally I would be interesting in any kind of jazz group.
Gear: OLP music man 4 string bass (IE an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray knock off), a solid but small Fender Bassman 25 (Im looking for a larger more show friendly amp).
Anything else you think we should know: Ive been playing for about 4 years. I have yet to actually sing for a band but my goal is to play bass and sing in what ever band Im in.
NE Phila ska/rock/everything else band: looking for a singer and/or a second guitarist (horns as well but what can you do)
Influences: basically same as yours but instead of thursday or tbs, it would be like zeppelin and Elvis as the last two. My own ska influences would be like skatalites, slackers, nysje etc, and I think the other members would agree.
I will be completely honest and tell you that out of about like 10 or so songs we do have like 2 not really skacore songs, but they definitely have power chords, but much more like punk then cheesy ska bands from jersey style. Most of our other stuff varies; we have one song from different genres of music, but for the most part its all ska. I guess in one song, I would classify us as slackers-sarah without the horns, we actually want to cover that song, but it wouldn’t sound the same without a sax player. We listen to traditional ska as well as a lot of different music, and I would love to say we are just an overall trad band, but not every song is, so I would have no idea how to classify use down to the very last detail, other then just saying we play ska.
So far we have a drummer (me) a bassist, a guitarist, and keys (keyboard/organs) we started about 3 months ago and played a little instrumental show, but we have really been looking for a singer lately.
Other general info: ages are 15-17. we practice in the Northeast, around Rawnherst/ Fox Chase if you don’t know where that is, its probably about 15 minutes from Franklin Mills or Neshaminy Mall, and about 5 minutes north from Roosevelt Mall. we have a PA system in the house w/ mics, and you could probably use one of the guitars we have, if you only have a bass (that’s If you want to play guitar as well).
If you’re interested comment back.
mmmm, I live about 20 minutes away from the neshaminy mall in the direction of south hampton, Warrington, Warwick etc. Damn, this looks SO tempting because I really want to get on stage, but truely I want to keep my ska COMPLETLY seperate from my other musical interests. Also, i dont know if Im comfortable enough to actually play guitar in a band quite yet. Ive only really been playing for a few months. Im also really looking to play bass because that is my true love, singing comes in a very close second though. Also, I hate punk, with a passion. So Im going to have to say no, but damn, just to get on a stage...
what kind of punk are we talking about, im not saying like complete hardcore casalties its much more like rock like the clash in 2 songs.
well what can you do, if your still interested in singing you know how to reach me
